Blackboard Collaborate Ultra - Audio/Video Troubleshooting Guide
Hello! Welcome to this brief instructional video on joining a Blackboard Collaborate Ultra session. You will have most likely been invited to a Collaborate session via a guest link sent to you in an email. To join a session, locate the guest link that was sent to you and click it. It’s best to use Google Chrome to join Collaborate sessions. If Chrome is not your default browser, you may have to copy the link and paste it into Chrome’s address bar in order to join the session with Chrome.
The guest link will take you to a Join Session page. Enter your name here and click the Join Session button. It’s best to use your full name so other participants will know who you are at a glance. Collaborate will take a brief moment to load and will prompt you to set up your audio and video. Look for a pop up box from your browser asking you to give permission to Collaborate to use your microphone. Choose “Allow” in this box. Select your microphone from the drop down menu on the Audio Setup page and say a few words to make sure the purple audio level meter moves. If the meter is moving, your microphone is working. Click “Yes, it’s working to continue.”
Next up is the video setup page. You may get another pop up box from your browser asking for permission to use your Camera. Once again, click Allow. Select your camera from the from the drop down menu. If you see yourself in the preview window, your camera is working. Click “Yes, it’s working” to continue.
First time users are greeted with some tutorial tips intended to show you around the session window. You can read and click through these or click skip. One last tip will appear to show you where to find the tutorial for future reference. Close this tip to get into the session.
Once you are in the session you’ll be able to see participant video and shared content in the center of the window. The microphone button at the bottom of the screen can be used to turn on or mute your microphone. If you are muted, you’ll see a slash through the icon. The camera button can be used to turn on your webcam video so other participants can see you. When you click the camera button you’ll be shown a preview window to confirm that you’re looking great. Click “Share Video” to turn on your camera. When your camera is off, you’ll see a slash through the icon.
You can find the session Chat by clicking the Pink Collaborate Menu button in the bottom-right of the screen. Click the Chat bubble to switch to the Chat window. The “Everyone” chat is seen by all participants. Click "Everyone" to enter the Everyone chat. You can close this helpful tip. Type your message in this box and hit ENTER on your keyboard to send it.
To leave a session, click the Session Menu button in the top-left of the session window. The leave session button is at the bottom of this menu. Click it and then give your feedback on the quality of the call or click skip to leave the session.
