DVD/CD-ROM driver will not install

Steps to follow if DVD/CD-ROM drive will not install properly and has a yellow exclaimation point, will not read DVD/CD, and does not show up in "Computer".

  1. Open Device Manager and check the status of the driver.
    DVDDriverBad
  2. On the Windows Start menu, click Run.
  3. Type Regedit and press Enter
  4. Navigate to the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  5. Delete the keys named: LowerFilers and UpperFilters.
  6. Close Regedit.
  7. Return to Device Manager and Right-click on the driver and select Uninstall Driver.
  8. At this time the the Device Manager should refresh and try to install the driver again. If it does not, press the Scan for Hardware changes button.
  9. The yellow triangle should now be gone, test the CD drive.
