SQL Server 2014 Management Studio Setup

The following information will provide you with the correct setup for students to access the server/database.

Before setup for SQL Server 2014 Management Studio, students need to configure there Remote Desktop correctly.


Part #1:

Remote Desktop Lab is the only way the students will be able to access the server.


Here is a knowledge document that provides information on Remote Desktop Setup:

Important things to highlight from Remote Desktop Lab:

  • The student needs to verify that they are not using Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 for accessing remote lab.

  • Remote Desktop Lab ONLY works in Internet Explorer.

  • Java must be enabled.


Part #2:

After the student log’s in: Search for SQL Server 2014 Management Studio.  It looks like this.

Once the program is open the box will appear like this: (INCORRECT Info.)

This is the correct information. Please fill in the correct information like the picture below. (CORRECT)

Notes:

Server Type: Database Engine

Server Name (AS IS): icssql-1

Authentication: SQL Server Authentication

Login & Password: (Not your campus username or ID)

  • Login information is provided by your instructor on D2L.
  • Example: Class Name > Under Week #1 Intro > UWGB DATA BASE SERVER INSTANCE - STUDENT ACCOUNT INFO
