Installing the Duo App - for Smartphone\tablet Users ONLY

These steps are ONLY for users that selected "smartphone\tablet" as their duo device.

Users choosing "your Smartphone\Tablet" will receive an email message from 'Duo Security'. 

To install the Duo App simply click on the link you received in the email from Duo Security

1. Welcome Screen

Click Start setup to begin enrolling your device.

2. Choose Your Authentication Device Type

Select the type of device you'd like to enroll and click Continue. We recommend using a smartphone for the best experience, but you can also enroll iOS/Android tablets.

3. Type Your Phone Number

Select your country from the drop-down list and type your phone number. Use the phone number of your smartphone that you'll have with you when you're logging in to a Duo-protected service. 

Then double-check that you entered it correctly, check the box, and click Continue.

If you're enrolling a tablet you aren't prompted to enter a phone number.

4. Choose Platform

If setting up Duo Mobile (smartphones) choose one of the first 3 options below then click Continue and go to Step 5 below.

5. Install Duo Mobile

Go to the App Store on your device and install Duo Mobile.

Duo Mobile is an app that runs on your smartphone and helps you authenticate quickly and easily. During setup of Duo Mobile, please make sure to "Allow Notifications" and "Allow Access to Your Camera" if prompted. If notifications are turned off for Duo Mobile you will not receive notifications when trying to login. If Duo Mobile does not have access to your camera you cannot complete the setup (after setup you may disable access to the camera).

Follow the platform-specific instructions on the screen to install Duo Mobile. After installing the Duo app return to the enrollment window and click on "I have Duo Mobile installed" button.

6. Activate Duo Mobile

Activating the app links it to your account so you can use it for authentication.

On iPhone, Android, and Windows Phone activate Duo Mobile by scanning the bar code with the app's built-in bar code scanner. Follow the platform specific instructions for your device:

The "Continue" button is clickable after you scan the bar code successfully.

Can't scan the bar code? Click or, have an activation link emailed to you instead. and follow the instructions.

7. Configure Device Options (optional)

You may want to enable 'automatic push requests' by changing the When I log in: option and changing the setting from "Ask me to choose an authentication method" to "Automatically send this device a Duo Push" and click Save. With the automatic push option enabled, Duo automatically sends an authentication request via push notification to the Duo Mobile app on your smartphone.

Click Continue to login to proceed to the Duo Prompt.

8. Congratulations!

Your device is ready to approve Duo authentication requests. 

NOTE: Supported Browsers for the Duo App are Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer 8 or later. 

Please contact the IT Help Desk if you ever need assistance to change your phone number, re-activate Duo Mobile, or add an additional phone.
