    8. The VoiceThread "choose activity type" menu will open in a pop-up window. Select the Assignment Builder option.

      IMPORTANT
: During assignment setup, there is a known issue on certain browsers with the “Open in full size tab” link in the top-right corner of the VoiceThread pop-up window. To avoid this bug, do not click this link while building your assignment. We recommend that you build your VoiceThread assignment within the Canvas pop-up window. You can resize the pop-up window by clicking and dragging the bottom-right corner of the window.

    9. The VoiceThread assignment builder will launch. Select one of the three assignment types then click the yellow Continue button in the bottom-left corner:

      a. Create. Students are required to make a VoiceThread using a video, image, document, or presentation.
      b. Comment. Students are required to make a comment on a VoiceThread. (You may also use this option if you would like students to add slides to a VoiceThread you’ve created.)
      c. Watch. Students must watch or listen to an entire VoiceThread.

    10. For “Create” assignments, skip to step 13. For “Comment” or “Watch” assignments, either create a new project by clicking the Create a new VoiceThread button and then following the usual steps for creating a VoiceThread project or select a VoiceThread you’ve already created from your gallery. When you select a pre-existing VoiceThread, click the "Copy" dropdown menu underneath the project to select whether you'd like to copy all comments, only your own comments, or no comments for this new assignment. Once you've made your selection, click the Continue button in the bottom-left corner of the window.

    11. On the project overview screen you can make some adjustments to your VoiceThread project. You can:

      a. Give the project a new name by clicking the pencil icon in the top-left corner.
      b. Add additional slides to the project with the "Add Media" button.
      c. Re-order slides by clicking and dragging the "move" button in the top-right corner of a slide.
      d. Edit or delete slides by clicking the respective buttons below each slide.
When you are done making adjustments, click the Continue button.

      IMPORTANT:
Each time you create a new assignment with the assignment builder using a pre-existing VoiceThread, a new copy of the VoiceThread project is created. Any changes you make to the project from within the assignment builder will not affect the original.

    12. The VoiceThread player will open. Preview your project and make any further adjustments as needed, then click the Continue button.

    13. Set the desired settings for your VoiceThread assignment by ticking or unticking the blue checkboxes, then click the Continue button. You can read more about each of these settings in this vendor guide.

    14. Give your VoiceThread assignment a name, description, and submission message by filling in the appropriate boxes. Add start dates and due dates, if desired, and set the assignment submission and assessment settings. You can learn more about each of these settings in this vendor guide.

      IMPORTANT:
Start dates or due dates set within the VoiceThread assignment builder will not automatically be applied to the assignment settings in Canvas. Leave these boxes blank if you’d like to manage the open/due/close dates in Canvas. Unlike due dates in Canvas, a due date set within the VoiceThread assignment is a hard cut-off date for submissions; students will not be able to make late submissions after the VoiceThread assignment due date.

    15. Click the yellow Publish button. Note that this does not publish the assignment in Canvas.

    16. The VoiceThread setup menu will close and you will be returned to the external tool window in Canvas. Click the green Select button in the bottom-right corner.
