Canvas (Continuing Education) - Joining a Course with a Canvas Catalog Self-Enrollment Link
The process for joining a course with a Canvas Catalog Self-Enrollment Link is different for users who are taking a UW System institution Canvas course for the first time and users who already have a Canvas account from taking another course or from being a UWGB (or other UW System university) student or employee. Please reference the steps which pertain to your status:
- I am taking my first Canvas course.
- I am a UW System university employee or a student who is currently taking for-credit classes at a UW System university.
- I am a community member who already has a UW Continuing Education Student Canvas account from taking another Canvas course.
Instructions for New Canvas Users
- Use the provided Canvas Catalog self-enrollment link to navigate to the Catalog listing page for your Canvas course. The URL of a Canvas Catalog self-enrollment link will look like the following example:
https://uwgreenbay.catalog.instructure.com/courses/example-course
- Select the Enroll Now button on the Catalog listing page.
- Fill out the following fields to register your new Canvas user account:
- Full Name - enter your first and last name
- Email - enter your email address
- Confirm Email - reenter your email address
- Select the checkbox to agree to the Acceptable Use Policy and Privacy Policy
- Select the reCAPTCHA checkbox to verify that you are not a robot
- Select the Register New Account button to submit the form
- Select the Enroll button on the Checkout page.
- To complete your Canvas user account registration, check your email inbox for a message from "Canvas Catalog" (notifications@instructure.com) that has the subject, "Welcome to Catalog". In this email, select the Complete Registration button.
- In the Welcome Aboard! page that opens, create a Password for your account, select your Time Zone, and the select the Register button.
- Upon completing your account registration, you'll be enrolled in the course and taken to your Catalog dashboard page. Find the course on your Catalog dashboard's In Progress list and select its Go to Course button.
To return to your Canvas course anytime after enrolling, navigate to https://uws-ce.instructure.com, select the UW Continuing Education Student login type, sign in with your email address and password, and then select the course's tile from your dashboard.
Instructions for Users Who Already Have a Canvas Account
- Use the provided Canvas Catalog self-enrollment link to navigate to the Catalog listing page for your Canvas course. The URL of a Canvas Catalog self-enrollment link will look like the following example:
https://uwgreenbay.catalog.instructure.com/courses/example-course
- Select the Enroll Now button on the Catalog listing page.
- Select the Already have an account? Sign in here button. DO NOT fill in the "Full Name" and "Email" fields that are below this button; those fields are for new users only.
- Select the login type of your Canvas user account:
- UW Continuing Education Student - Select this type if you are a community member who registered for their Canvas account using a non-UWGB email address. Sign in with your full email address as the "Login" and the password you set during registration.
- UW Employee / Faculty / Student - Select this type if you are an employee or student of UWGB or another UW System university. Sign in with your university account and password.
- Select the Enroll button on the Checkout page.
- You are now enrolled in the course. To navigate to the Canvas course:
- Select the Go to Courses button on the confirmation page to open your Catalog dashboard.
- Find the course on your Catalog dashboard's In Progress list and select its Go to Course button.
- Select the Go to Courses button on the confirmation page to open your Catalog dashboard.
To return to your Canvas course anytime after enrolling, navigate to https://uws-ce.instructure.com, sign in with the appropriate login type, and then select the course's tile from your dashboard.
