  4. Configure where eGlass Fusion will save recording files (for temporary storage before uploading to Kaltura).
    1. In the bottom toolbar of the eGlass Fusion software, select the Settings option.
    2. Select the "Misc." tab of the Settings menu.
    3. Select the folder icon in the "Archive Root Folder" section to open a file explorer window. In the file explorer, choose Videos under "This PC" as the folder location. Confirm that the path under "Archive Root Folder" begins with C:\Users\YourUserName\Videos\
    4. Select the green Save button. A dialog box will appear asking you if you want to restart eGlass Fusion now. Select Yes.

Adjusting the Lighting

Before recording, follow these steps to calibrate the lighting for the best quality video recording.

  1. Close the studio door and use the light switch on the wall next to the door to turn off the room ceiling lights.
  2. On the lightboard control panel, turn the Glass Lights knob all the way to 100% brightness and turn the Instructor Lights to about 25% brightness.
  3. Use a lightboard marker to draw a line on the glass to use as a reference as you adjust the lighting.
  4. Lower the camera's exposure by pressing the Exposure - button on the control panel until you start to look too dark on the video but the ink on the glass remains bright and visible on the video.
  5. Slowly raise the Instructor Lights until you look visible and bright, but not washed out, on the video monitor.
    • If you still look dark after adjusting the instructor lights to 100% brightness, use the Exposure button to raise the camera exposure until you look bright enough on video.
    • Using too high of an exposure setting will yield grainy video and less contrast between the background and ink. Having the instructor and glass lights higher and the exposure setting lower will look better than a higher exposure setting and lower light levels.

  5. Close the tray by selecting the arrow on the right edge of the eGlass Fusion window.

Making a Recording

After you have calibrated the lighting and (optionally) prepared documents or images, you are ready to begin recording:

  1. To start a recording, press the Record button on the lightboard control panel.
  2. If you need to pause in the middle of the recording, press the Pause button on the lightboard control panel. Select the Pause button again to resume recording.
  3. To stop and save your recording, press the Stop button.

As an alternative to using the buttons on the physical control panel, you can also start, pause, and stop recordings by selecting the corresponding icons on the eGlass Fusion software's toolbar.

After You Record

Uploading and Sharing Your Recording

  1. The eGlass Fusion software saves recordings as a video file on the studio's computer. You can playback your most recent recording by selecting the recording thumbnail on the left edge of the eGlass Fusion software toolbar.

  2. Before leaving the lightboard studio, you need to upload the video file from the studio's computer to your Kaltura My Media library or another hosting service (e.g. OneDrive or YouTube).
  3. To find out where on the computer your recording was saved, select Settings and then the Misc tab in the eGlass Fusion software and look at the "Archive Root Folder" path. If you followed the setup directions above, your video file can be found inside a "Videos" folder within the This PC > Videos directory.
  4. For instructions on uploading your video file to Kaltura My Media, please see Kaltura (Canvas) - Uploading Videos.
  5. You can share your uploaded recording from Kaltura by embedding it in Canvas with the Rich Content Editor or by copying your video's share link and sharing it anywhere.
  6. Please delete your video file(s) from the lightboard studio's computer after you have uploaded it. Deleting your file(s) will help make sure the computer has room for your and others' future recordings.

Shutting Down and Leaving the Studio

To make sure the studio is in good condition for the next person, please do the following before leaving the lightboard studio:

  1. Sign out of the lightboard studio computer, but do not shut it down.
  2. Erase all markings from the glass by wiping it with a cloth towel.
  3. Turn on the studio's ceiling lights with the wall switch and then turn off the lightboard frame with the power switch located under the power icon on the bottom of the frame.
  4. Take the bag with the markers and the room key and leave the studio, shutting the door behind you and ensuring it is locked.
  5. Return the bag with the room key and markers to the library circulation desk.
