Backing up Data - Saving Files to OneDrive

***NOTE: GBIT recommends backing up your files to OneDrive for ease of access, and your OneDrive has more storage than other options***

1. Click on the cloud icon in the top right corner of your screen
            a. If you do not see the cloud icon, locate the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner of your screen
            b. Click on the magnifying glass icon and search "OneDrive" - the cloud icon will show

The OneDrive cloud is in the top right corner of the screen

2. Click "Sign In" - after signing in, it will say "your files are synced", and the "x" by the cloud icon will disappear

The OneDrive sign in screen will be under the cloud icon in the top right corner of the screen.

3. Click on "Go" in the top left corner of your screen - transfer files to OneDrive from your Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Photos, or wherever you have saved files

            a. To transfer files, highlight the files, right click, and select "Copy"

The "copy" option is in the middle of the pop up that occurs after right-clicking the file.

            b. Click on "OneDrive", right click on a blank area, and select "Paste Item"

"Paste Item" is at the top of the pop up that happens after you right click on the blank space under OneDrive.


Backing up Data - Saving Files to your M Drive or Share Drives

1. Locate Finder in your computer's dock

Finder is a "face" icon in the bottom toolbar of your screen.

2. Click "Go" in the top left corner of your screen - then, select "Connect to Server..."

"Connect to Server" is at the bottom of the "Go" drop down.

3. Type in the file path for the drive
        a. M Drive File Path: smb://fpsa/first letter of last name/username
                i. Example: smb://fpsa/g/gloshenzt
        b. Share Drive File Path: smb://servername.uwgb.edu/share          
                i. Example: smb://fpsa.uwgb.edu/technology$

4. Click on the plus sign button to add the drive to "Favorite Servers" - then, select "Connect"
        a. Adding to "Favorite Servers" ensures you won't have to retype the file path every time you access the drive

The file path text field is at the top of the pop up, the plus sign button is in the bottom left corner of the pop up, and the "connect" button is in the bottom right corner of the pop up.  


Backing up Bookmarks - Safari

1. Open Safari

2. In the top left corner of your screen, select "File", "Export", then "Bookmarks"

After selecting "File", "export" is at the bottom of the drop down, and "Bookmarks" is to the right of "Export".

3. Rename the file "Safari Bookmarks" and save it to your OneDrive

You can rename the bookmark file in the "Save As" text field at the top of the pop up.


Backing up Bookmarks - Google Chrome

1. Open Google Chrome

2. In the top right corner of Google Chrome, click on the three vertical dots

3. Select "Bookmarks and Lists" then "Bookmark Manager"

"Bookmarks and Lists" is in the center of the drop down, and "Bookmark Manager" is in the middle of the small drop down off of that.

4. In the top right corner of the Bookmarks Manager page, select the three vertical dots

5. Select "Export bookmarks" from the drop down menu

"Export Bookmarks" it at the bottom middle of the drop down.

6. Rename the file "Google Chrome Bookmarks" and save it to your OneDrive

You can rename the file in the "Save As" text field.


Backing up Bookmarks - Firefox

1. Open Firefox

2. In the top right corner of Firefox, click on the three horizontal lines

3. Click on "Bookmarks"

"Bookmarks" is in the top-middle of the drop down menu.

4. At the bottom of the "Bookmarks" menu, select "Manage bookmarks"

5. Select "All Bookmarks" from the side bar

6. Click on the parallel arrows icon at the top of the "All Bookmarks" screen

7. Select "Export Bookmarks to HTML" from the drop down

"All bookmarks" is on the left-hand side of the Bookmarks menu. Steps 6 and 7 depict other aspects of the image.

8. Rename the file "Firefox Bookmarks" and save it to your OneDrive

You can rename the file in the "Save As" text field at the told of the screen.


Backing up Outlook Signatures

1. Open Outlook

2. In the top left corner of your screen, go under "Outlook" and select "Settings..."

Under "File", "Settings" is near the top-middle of the drop down menu.

3. Under "Settings", select "Signatures"

"Signatures" is placed in the middle of the settings screen.

4. Under "Signature name", highlight your Outlook signatures, right click, and select "Copy"

"Edit Signature:" is on the left hand side of the screen. "Copy" is in the center of the Right-Click menu.

5. Open a Word Doc - in the Doc, right click, and select "Paste"

"Paste" is at the top of the Right Click menu.

6. In the top left corner of your screen, go to "File" and select "Save As..."

"Save As..." is in the middle of the "file" drop down.


7. Name the file "Outlook Signatures" and save it to your OneDrive

You can rename the file in the "Name:" text field at the top of the screen.
