How to remove a file lock manually in MS Server 2008

This document describes how to remove a file lock manually in MS Server 2008.

1. Open Administrative Tools, and then open Share and Storage Management.

2. From the Actions pane, select "Manage Open Files." 

3. Here you are able to see all locked files and folders on this server. To clear a lock, select the relevant file and select “Close Selected."

***NOTE: This should only be done if the user definitely is not using the the file, otherwise data loss may occur.***
