Adobe - No Audio on Video Clips in Premiere Pro CC
This document details the procedure to follow if video clips in Adobe Premiere do not have their audio after importing.
Sometimes, .MTS, .mp4, or .mov, video files will not be imported with audio when they are imported into Adobe Premiere Pro CC. Deleting the media cache files and media cache database files from the user's appdata folder and re-importing or re-linking the clips may resolve the issue. Follow these steps:
1. Exit all Adobe programs (including Premiere Pro).
2. Delete the media cache files and media cache database files:
1. Windows Filepath: C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common
a. In Windows 10, you can navigate directly to the AppData folder by typing %appdata% in the start menu search bar and pressing Enter
***NOTE: the AppData folder is a hidden folder and you will have to check Hidden items in under View in order to see it within C:\Users\<your username>\ in File Explorer (see image below).***
b. Mac Filepath: /Users/<your username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common.
2. Delete all files within the Media Cache folder.
3. Delete all files within the Media Cache Files folder.
4. If present: Delete all files within the Peak Files folder
3. Open Adobe Premiere Pro and open your project.
4. If audio is still not included with the clips in your project, you should set your clips offline in your project and re-link them:
1. Highlight and right-click the files in your Project window or timeline, select "Make Offline...," make sure "Media files remain on Disk" is selected and select "OK."
2. Highlight and right-click the now offline files in your project window or timeline, select "Link Media...," select "Locate" and then select "OK."
***NOTE: The Last Path and Path should match.***
5. The clips should now have audio.
6. If the clips still do not have audio, verify that the source files have audio by playing them in VLC or another media player; if they do, repeat step 1 and 2 to delete the cache files, then rename the source files (for .MTS files, try changing the extension to .M2TS), and either import the renamed files or link your now offline clips to the corresponding renamed files. If the source files do not have audio when played in a media player, then audio was not recorded and is not recoverable.
