Canvas - Sending final grades to SIS

This article explains how instructors can send their final grade letter values from Canvas to SIS.

Instructors can send their final grade letter values from Canvas to SIS. This feature can be especially useful for large enrollment classes. Instructors will still need to log into SIS to approve their grade rosters by the deadline published in the Academic Calendar.

If you’d like to make use of this process, you will need to have completed the 4 items below.
  1. Set up a grade scheme for your class (might already be done). Guide.
  2. Enable the grade scheme for your class (might already be done). Guide.
    • NOTE: This means your "total" grade must display the letter grades in A, AB, B... etc. format. See the guides linked above for more information.
  3. Have all graded activities graded in Canvas. During the pass-back, anything not graded will count as a zero for a student.
Bonus (x/0) have no impact if a student didn’t earn any points.
Hidden/muted grades will not be included.
  4. Send your grades over:
    a. Enter your course
    b. Click on Grades
    c. Click on Actions, then select Sync to SIS
    Sync to SIS button
    d. When prompted, click on Sync button
  5. Go to SIS
  6. Authenticate using your DUO enabled device or fob
  7. Go to your grades roster for your course
    1. Under Display options, select Final Grade rather than Midterm Grade which is the default.
    2. Grades from Canvas send to the Roster Grade column; verify they're what you expect to see from Canvas
    3. Under Grade Roster Action, choose “Approved” from the dropdown menu, and click Save.
