Eduroam Wireless Network
This document discusses eduroam wireless network.
What is eduroam?
- eduroam (education roaming) is a secured wireless network service that allows students, staff, and faculty to use their home institution's wireless credentials to access wireless network services, when visiting other eduroam participating institutions, without having to set up a guest account.
- eduroam is offered throughout 36 European countries, 6 Asia-Pacific countries, the United States*, and Canada.
- With hundreds of thousands of wireless access points sharing a common SSID, eduroam acts as one large, world-wide, wireless hotspot.
*Note: eduroam is still in the early stages of its development in the United States. This documentation describes the services and connection methods as they are intended to perform. However, in practice you may encounter occasional difficulties at this or other locations until this new service becomes more established. We anticipate the standardization of the service will improve in the U.S. over time.

At some schools, WPA is supported instead of WPA2. Change the configuration accordingly or let your OS automatically detect the proper encryption. At the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay, our eduroam implementation uses the following security configuration:
- Network security type: WPA2 (sometimes referred to as WPA2-Enterprise)
- Data encryption: AES
- Authentication: Secured password via Protected EAP (PEAP) with Microsoft CHAP (MSCHAPv2)
Prior to traveling, make sure to connect to the eduroam wireless network on the Green Bay campus. This will allow the Help Desk to assist you if you encounter difficulties and will increase the security of the system by verifying the Green Bay certificate on our local trusted network.
Support for UWGB Faculty, Staff, and Students in Other Locations
UWGB faculty, staff, and students should not rely on the visited institution for support when troubleshooting network access with eduroam. Visited institutions are not obligated or prepared to support visitors accessing eduroam. The CIT Help Desk will coordinate with the visited institution's technical staff, if necessary, to resolve connectivity or other networking problems.
Support for Visitors to the UWGB campus
Please rely on your home institution's technical support for eduroam-related connectivity problems. They will coordinate with our technical staff, if necessary, to resolve connectivity or other networking problems.
In order to use eduroam, both your home and visiting institutions must participate. There are presently only a small handful of US schools which have deployed eduroam; however the majority of European and some Canadian schools have.
