Problems with Java and Remote Connections

When connecting to either remote lab (students) or remote desktop (faculty), the PC will connect once successfully but after that session is closed it will not connect again.

Windows based computers that are running Java version 7 can experience the connection issue, while Java version 6 connects fine.  When users try to reconnect, the white screen shown below appears and nothing happens. 


 Perform the following as a workaround for this issue:

  • Close the browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc)
  • Click on Start - Control Panel - Java.  (If no Java icon is listed - change the control panel view by on the right hand upper corner from catagory to small icons.)
  • From the Java General Tab - click on settings - uncheck the box for Keep temporary files on my computer.
