FAQ - Licensing for Office 2016 - Students

Important information regarding the licensing of Microsoft Office 2016 on personal students devices.

  • Students currently enrolled or registered for one or more credits at UW Green Bay can install Microsoft Office 2016 software for free on their personal computers through the Student Advantage program. "Office 365 ProPlus for Students" equates to Microsoft Office 2016 for Windows and\or Microsoft Office 2016 or Office 2011 for Macintosh.
  • The software has the same features and functions as other versions of Office and can be used offline; however, students must connect to the Internet once every 30 days to verify they are still eligible for the program.
  • Students can install the software on up to five computers, including Windows and Mac. Students can also access Office mobile applications on iPhones and Android phones.


Office 2016 (Windows) includes: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Skype, and InfoPath.
Office 2016\2011 (Macintosh) includes: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Lync.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When can new, (incoming Freshman) students have proper access to install Office 2016?

Two days after a new student registered, their accounts should have the proper access to download the Office software.

How long can I keep my license for Office 2016?

Office 365 licensing is retained as long as the uwgb account is active. Therefore, most accounts are active for one year after a students last semester as a registered student. Social Work, Nursing, and Adult Degree students retain their accounts for two years after their last registered course. When a student is no longer registered for classes, the software should be uninstalled from the student's personal devices.

How many devices can I install the software on?

Each subscription license allows you to install Microsoft Office on up to five computers. You can also run Office Mobile for Android or iPhone on up to five mobile devices.

Is this a full version of Office, available for offline use?

Yes. The software has the same features and functions as other versions of Office and can be used offline.
