Courses Do Not Show up in D2L or Canvas
The following are several reasons for "missing" courses.
SOME COURSES ARE NOT OFFERED IN D2L:
First check with your instructor to verify that the course is not being taught in Canvas and that there is a D2L component for the course.
1) Course is offered in a different Learning Management System (LMS). Students should check wit their instructor(s) if they cannot find the course in either D2L or Canvas. Instructors in D2L should ensure that the course has an accurate start date. Instructors in Canvas should ensure that the live course (the version containing students from SIS) is "Published."
2) D2L: Accidentally collapsing a section under "My Courses."
To re-open a section, click the chevron (carrot, greater-than symbol, arrow, etc.) icon on the right-hand side of the grey bar containing the department or semester name.
3) Canvas: Course is missing from the Dashboard. To check for a course, navigate to Courses > All Courses. Clicking the star next to a course will re-add it to the courses menu (and your Dashboard).
4) D2L: Looking for the course under "Select a course..." while having more courses than are listed.
Click "Load More Courses" or view your complete list of courses under "My Courses."5) BOTH: You are not yet enrolled in the D2L or Canvas course. SIS and the Learning Management Systems integrate during overnight processes.
Courses do not show up in D2L or Canvas immediately after registering in SIS. If you feel you need a copy of the syllabus or readings after late enrollment, contact your instructor. See the flowchart below for more information.6) BOTH: The course has not started yet.
Courses do not appear before their start date unless set to do so by the instructor. In some cases, two courses that start on the same day can still have different start dates in D2L or Canvas. This is typically because the instructor of the one that does show up has requested for it to do so; otherwise courses do not show up until the day the class starts in SIS, and (in the case of Canvas) once the instructor has published the course. See the flowchart below for more information.7) BOTH: The course does not exits on D2L or Canvas or is cross listed.
Not all instructors use D2L or Canvas. Check with your instructor to ensure that you should be logging on to complete coursework. Some courses are cross listed (Humanistic Studies and History, for example); if you are looking for HUM STUD 303 make sure it is not instead listed as HIST 303 online.
