My Media Screen Recording for Macs
This document will show the step-by-step process for using My Media accounts to upload videos to Kaltura.
Step 1: Log into D2L
Step 2: From the navigation bar on the My Home Page, select the Kaltura Media tab, and then My Media.
Step 3: This will open either a new tab in your browser, or a new window. You may have to check a box acknowledging Kaltura's use (you will only have to do this the first time you've used Kaltura.
- Here, you will find any existing recordings you've created.
Step 4: Choose Screen Recording from the Add New Menu:
Step 5: This will refresh to the Kaltura CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder page, where there are directions for downloading the desktop recorder.
Step 6: Click the "Download for Mac" button. Once you click this button the download should start. In Safari (see image) the .dmg file will go to the downloads folder:
Step 7: Double click on the dmg file to open and install.
Step 8: The download will now need to be placed within the Applications folder. Click on the Kaltura CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder icon and drag it (while still selecting the icon) to the Applications folder:
Step 8: Go back to your D2L window and click on Kaltura Media again because the recording action needs to run again, since it didn't know that you installed the application. Go through Steps 2 through 4 again.
Step 9: Once you choose to "Add New" from the My Media library, your computer should launch the capture space recorder, and you can choose from this menu what you want to record.
Note: For any of the screen options, you can choose to select the part of the screen you want to record. You can also use the "draw" function to annotate the screen.
Some things to keep in mind:
- If your Java version is out of date, you don't necessarily need to update, but it is a good idea to do so, because the next time you create a recording you will not have to keep "ignoring/dismiss" those prompts.
- Watch for pop ups from your computer about allowing Java to be displayed within the browser window, as this sometimes causes confusion about launching the recorder.
- When using Safari as your browser allow Java to run in Unsafe Mode: Safari Preferences>>Security>>Manage Website/Plugin Settings>>Find Java in the list of Plugins, and from those menus select "Run in Unsafe Mode" in the bottom box, and in the main window select "Run in Unsafe Mode." Click "Done."
