Edit or Delete a Discussion Post

This document outlines editing a discussion post.

Instructors can edit or delete a discussion post by clicking the dropdown menu next to their name in Reading View and selecting "Edit Thread" or "Delete Thread." In Grid View, an "Edit Post" button appears to instructors when the message is opened; click "More Actions" to choose to delete a post.

Students cannot edit or delete posts. This is to avoid student mistakenly deleting a post. Some instructors also require students to post once before they can see the rest of the discussion board and do not want students to be able to modify an original statement to reflect their peers'. Editing of posts also makes it difficult for instructors to assess student work.

It is generally preferred that students simply reply to their original post with any corrections. Students who need to re-post or make changes to a post (perhaps because they posted to the wrong thread, etc.) should contact their instructor to have the original post updated or deleted.
